If you have an early departure or late arrival at Melbourne Airport, staying nearby can save you valuable time and minimize travel stress. The key decision isn’t the hotel itself. It’s whether you want to walk to the terminal or rely on a shuttle.
Best Hotels Near Melbourne Airport
PARKROYAL Melbourne Airport

PARKROYAL is the nearest and easiest choice because it is directly opposite the terminals. It is literally connected to the airport via walkways, so you can walk to check-in from the hotel in just under 10 minutes, which makes it the number one choice for travellers with an early or late flight, without the need for transport.
Even though the hotel is in a busy area, the rooms are comfortable and peaceful, and the entire experience is always smooth. You are paying for convenience here, and for many travellers, this is the most convenient and best choice around the airport.
Best for: zero-stress travel, early departures, late arrivals.
Avoid if: you’re trying to minimise cost.
Holiday Inn Melbourne Airport
Holiday Inn offers a strong balance between convenience and price. It’s located on Centre Rd and not directly attached to the terminal, but despite being very close, we could not find a suitable walkway. However, it runs a reliable shuttle service every fifteen minutes, which often needs to be prebooked during busy hours to avoid disappointment.
Rooms are simple and practical, making it a good choice if you want something close without paying premium rates. It’s one of the most dependable mid-range airport options, that is ideal if you want to save money but still stay within 5–10 minutes of the terminals.
Best for: value and convenience.
Avoid if: you want immediate, walkable access
ibis Styles Melbourne Airport
ibis Styles is a newer and more modern alternative near the airport. It has a cleaner and more modern vibe than earlier budget hotels in the region.
It still focuses on being useful, and the shuttle makes it easy to get to the airport. If you want something that won’t break the bank but still looks modern, this is a fantastic choice.
Best for: modern budget stays.
Avoid if: you want the closest possible location.
Quest Melbourne Airport
Quest offers apartment-style accommodation, which is useful if you need a kitchen, or are staying longer. It’s slightly further from the terminal, so you’ll need to rely on transport rather than walking.
The extra amenities and flexibility make it a better fit for families or extended stays rather than quick overnight stops, which isn’t worth it.
Best for: longer stays, extra space, families.
Avoid if: you want quick, simple airport access.
Ciloms Airport Lodge
Ciloms is a Motel style budget-friendly option near the airport. It isn’t as modern as newer hotels, but it offers solid value and offers a 24 hour shuttle service to and from the airport. It also has a short and long term onsite car park and undercover facility. If your priority is saving money on parking fees, while staying reasonably close to the airport, this is the most practical choice.
Best for: budget travellers, overnight stays.
Avoid if: you want a modern or premium experience.
Make your journey smoother by staying close to the airport. Perfect for early flights, late arrivals, or short stopovers.
Walking vs Shuttle
Airport hotels differ mainly in how you get to the terminal:
Walk (PARKROYAL) → no waiting, no timing issues, fastest option.
Shuttle (most hotels) → convenient, but depends on schedule and availability.
Further stays → cheaper, but add uncertainty and travel time.
If your flight is early (before ~7am), staying within walking distance is usually worth the extra cost.
